Rearing its embryonic head

That seems fair,

In a class-action lawsuit sort of way

To decide what is yours and then divine

An equal separation of things that leave

And of things left behind.

I shall not want for open space

This house, this industrial sized coffin,

This manufacturing plant for my tears –

I’d scream if I thought I’d feel better,

But yelling only echoes my fears.

Work is a necessary distraction,

A time between momentarily forgetting the pain

And painfully remembering the truth.

Solace must have left with you,

Independence, I’m afraid, departed with my youth.

I used to check the window for your approach,

Set the lights on “Motion”, leave the garage door open.

Guess I know now that you are gone

No visits, no letter, no chance at reconciliation,

I set the table for one, don’t leave any lights on.

This is my surrender, the testimony of my defeat,

You’ve taken the spoils and destroyed this city –

You left completely, having had your fun.

Time to move on conquering queen,

You’ve had your revenge, we’ve come undone.
