Drastic Fantastic  - KT Tunstall

There's more to KT Tunstall than meets the eye. A shameless self-promoter, KT started garnering fame in the states when she went to the "Today Show" studios and said that she wanted to perform, and that they wouldn't regret putting her on. So on she went, performing every part of a multi-instrument rendition of "The Black Horse and the Cherry Tree." Her album went platinum not long after that.

Like her heritage (Chinese/Irish/Scottish), KT's music is a unique blend: large parts British pop and American folk, with a dash of electronica here and a sprinkle of glam rock there. Actually, the glam rock cover of "Drastic Fantistic" seems to be more of a statement about the acceleration of her career rather than any sort of representation of the music itself. Poised for take-off, there an element in the artwork and her pose that begs you not to take her too seriously.

As far as the music goes, this is a little bit of a departure from her other albums, but that doesn't make it any less accomplished. With driving beats, universal themes, and even a little use of the kazoo - this cd is perfect for any road trip. For those that may not be familiar with her style, think early Jewel, early Tori Amos, and a less angry Melissa Etheridge.
